Saturday 1st May 2010 More demos at Noah's Ark
BARC activists have been to the zoo twice this week!
On Wednesday NAZF was holding a free open day for school teachers to encourage school trips to the zoo, so we thought we'd go along to welcome them, although there didn't appear to be any schools to welcome in the few hours we were there!
Today we held our regular Saturday demo, much to the dismay of a local bobby who took a disliking to our beautiful banners. Spotting them as he drove by he pulled in and demanded we gave our names and addresses as we were committing a road traffic offence - apparently - and he wanted to send us a summons! When we quizzed him on what offence he referred to he became flustered and said that if we didn't give our details he was going to arrest all of us! We were fairly confident we weren't breaking any laws but called a solicitor to double check, by which time the officer's 'back up' had arrived, calmed him down, given him a cup of tea and a biccie etc and informed us that he 'has a real thing about signs on the highway' that relates to some 'obscure, ancient law' that no one has ever heard of or even cares about! Drama over we carried on with our demo as usual.
